As a fellow semi-phobic, I recommend those things (technical term) that you plug into the mains that emit a high frequency sound. They're supposed to keep mice away as well as spiders and other creepy crawly things. We certainly don't hear mice rampaging up and down above our heads anymore, and I'm sure that there are fewer spiders trying to take up residence.
